Protect Voting Rights: What You Can Do
On June 15, the Community Conversations Ecumenical Consortium hosted an event called "Voting Rights: Preparing for November 3" with featured speakers Amy Perna (League of Women Voters of Minnesota); Melanie Hazelip (Voter Outreach Director for the MN Office of the Secretary of State); George Thompson (Voting Rights Activist, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church); and Birdie Hix Carter (Voting Rights Activist, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church).
Participants walked away from the event with a number of actions they can undertake to safeguard voting rights in Minnesota, including:
Train as an Election Protection volunteer and promote the Election Protection hotline (866-OUR-VOTE) (share your interest here).
Volunteer with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid to help identify and address polling place barriers.
Encourage community members to sign-up as election judges.
Learn how our elections work and share information from Elections411 and the MN Office of the Secretary of State’s election administration page.
Attend LWVUS’s monthly Democracy Integrity Briefings, to identify and address the latest national, statewide, and local trends in mis- and disinformation.
The MN Office of the Secretary of State has also published a “How Can I Help?” flyer that voting rights advocates can spread to their networks.
