National, State and Local Elections Approaching

This summer and fall will be an important time for Minnesota's voters. We will decide who will serve us in many local, state and national offices.

Primary Elections will be held on August 10. In the case of non-partisan offices, the top two vote-getters will face each other in the General Election on November 2. For partisan offices, the person who receives the most votes in each party's primary election will advance to the general election.

To help voters decide which candidates they prefer, LWVSP, in cooperation with other local organizations, will hold a series of Candidate Forums. As the time, place and participants in these Forums are finalized, the information will be publicized. Voters will find it on the Voting Help page of this website and in the Voter, the publication of LWVSP.

The following three websites are good sources of information for voters:

Person Needed to Coodinate Candidate Forums

As described above, LWVSP will be coordinating Candidate Forums that will take place over the next several months. These forums are important opportunities for voters to educate themselves before they cast their ballot in the fall elections.

Presenting the forums requires a significant organizational effort. We are offering a paid position to a person who wants to do this work. Please see our Volunteer! page for a job description and contact information.

A Summer Reading List

Except in the summer, members of LWVSP meet each month to discuss a book they have just read. The books come from an agree-upon reading list.

An organizational meeting to draw up this list will be held on September 8. Please see our Calendar page for all the details.

In the meantime, here are some books we suggest for summer reading:

Volunteer Needed to Represent LWVSP at CMAL

The Council of Metropolitan Area Leagues (CMAL) is an inter-league organization composed of the local Leagues in the seven-county metropolitan area. Through CMAL, League members work to address governmental issues of metropolitan concern.

We are in need of a CMAL delegate to act as a liaison between our league and CMAL. If you think you might enjoy providing this service, please go to our Volunteer! page for more information.

Latest Issue of the Voter Available
