The Immigrant Story: Two Perspectives
When
15 Mar 2017
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Location
Hallie Q. Brown Center, 270 Kent St. North
The topic of immigrants has been front and center in the daily news lately. What does it take to resettle immigrants and/or refugees in Minnesota with regard to time, money, personnel and effort? On the other hand, what is it like for the individuals and families who come here to be uprooted from their familiar surroundings and culture? How long and how difficult is the adjustment? Micaela Schuneman, Director of Refugee Services at the International Institute of MN, will give us some of the answers to the first question. Hodo Ali, an immigrant who came to this country, will also share her personal story of what the adjustment was like coming here to a different language, culture, school system, etc. If you have read some of the essays in
Race in Minnesota: A Good Time for the Truth
, you know was not always a smooth path.
